Excerpt
Elindness and visual impairment are problems of major public health concern in many Member States. Despite the considerable achievements made over the last two decades in controlling trachoma, millions of people in the Eastern Mediterranean Region of WHO (EMR) still suffer from blindness and other causes of visual impairment. Although the magnitude of the problem and the epidemiological characteristics, particularly as regards the causes of blindness, vary from one country to another--at least one of the major causes of blindness is present in a significant proportion in each country of the Region.
