The Dutch version of Nickelodeon, seen in the Netherlands and the Flanders region of Belgium, launched on July 14, 2003.[2][3][4] In addition to the general Nickelodeon fare found worldwide, local productions such as ZOOP, Het Huis Anubis, Het Huis Anubis en de Vijf van het Magische Zwaard and SuperNick are also broadcast. The Dutch Kids' Choice Awards were presented in 2004, 2005 and 2007, featuring nominees that are relevant to Dutch audiences. In 2010 the American Kids' Choice Awards aired, which included categories for the Netherlands and Flanders inserted into the broadcast.

Nickelodeon as screened in Flanders carry generally the same schedule, but with advertising and programming variations for Belgian viewers. All Belgian cable providers carry the Flemish version, with the satellite providers (TV Vlaanderen Digitaal and Mobistar) offering only the Dutch version, as it uses the feed of the Dutch CanalDigitaal.

Nickelodeon replaced a similar-themed channel, Kindernet in 2003 after the channel was acquired by Viacom by the end of 2001.[5] Nickelodeon started as a program block between 1 PM and 3 PM on Kindernet in the Netherlands in 2002.[6]

In the course of 2003 Nickelodeon is getting a prominent place in the programming of Kindernet. On July 14, 2003 Nickelodeon launched as a 24-hours channel.[7] By then Kindernet was degraded as a program block in the morning and was turned into Nick Jr..[8]

In 2005 Nickelodeon closed as a 24-hours channel. It began time-sharing with a new Dutch television channel Talpa on August 1, 2005. Nickelodeon aired between 6 AM and 6 PM.[9] By the end of 2006 MTV's deal with Talpa ended and Nickelodeon moved to The Box Comedy on December 1.[10] Nickelodeon extended its airtime till 8 PM and The Box Comedy changed into Comedy Central on April 30, 2007.[11]

Comedy Central switched to TMF on January 1, 2011. As of February 14, 2011 Nickelodeon became a 24-hours channel again.[12] On 21.00 our Nickelodeon become TeenNick which broadcast original versions of the series with Dutch subtitles, TeenNick stops on approximately 5.00 AM. After that normal Nickelodeon broadcast again. All content on normal Nickelodeon is Dutch dubbed, excepts Dutch/Flemish productions.

A High-Definition simulcast of Nickelodeon would launch through UPC Netherlands on April 3, 2012. But was delayed due to technical problems.[13] Eventually Nickelodeon HD launched through KPN Interactive TV on September 13, 2012.[14]

Nick Jr.

Nick Jr. is a pre-schoolers children's channel and is part of the Dutch Nickelodeon network. After the transition of Kindernet to Nickelodeon in 2003[16] Nick Jr. became a program block on Nickelodeon in the morning.[17] Nick Jr. would launch as a separate nonstop channel on January 1, 2005 but due to some capacity problems it eventually launched a few months later on May 1.[18]
