Cartoon Network is a pan-European digital television channel created by Turner Broadcasting, a unit of Time Warner and dedicated to showing animated programming. Based on the original American version of the channel, it launched on 17 September 1993. It broadcasts in time-sharing with TCM.
Broadcast locations
The Pan-European feed broadcasts to countries with no Cartoon Network channel of their own, including Republic of Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Poland, Turkey, Portugal, Bulgaria, Russia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Balkan countries, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Scandinavia, the Middle East and Africa. This version of Cartoon Network, however, does not air any content owned by Warner Bros.
Most European countries received the pan-European version of the channel until at least 2000, when the versions for each country were started to replace it.

Spain receives its own feed with Spanish soundtrack, available through satellite platform Digital+ and most cable operators. A local version of the Boomerang channel is also available.
The Netherlands has its own version of Cartoon Network as well. The channel is available through all major providers including CanalDigitaal, UPC and Ziggo. A Dutch version of Boomerang is also available through most providers. The now-defunct terrestrial broadcaster Yorin used to show Cartoon Network programming on weekday afternoons.
Belgium receives the French and Dutch versions of Cartoon Network.

Cartoon Network's Central Europe operations originate from Warsaw, Poland.
The Polish version launched on September 1, 1998, with Hungarian and Romanian soundtracks added to that same feed on 30 September 2002. Cartoon Network initially shared time with TCM, with Cartoon Network airing 14 hours (6:00 - 20:00 CET) and TCM is airing the other 6 hours (20:00 - 2:00 CET). In rest of the time (2:00 - 6:00) the British version is airing. From October 2001, the Polish version airs to 21:00 CET, and the British version airs shorter: from 3:00 to 6:00. On 2 March 2004 the British version on the Polish one has ended broadcasting; the Polish version now airs from 3:00 to 21:00. All advertising was shown in Polish, regardless of region.
Since 1 March 2007 Cartoon Network and TCM are now airing 24 hours a day on two different channels.
In January 2008 a Romanian version, with a Romanian soundtrack and advertising, debuted.
On 1 October 2009 the Hungarian and Polish versions were separated, with each country having their own feeds.
A feed for the Czech Republic and Slovakia is planned to launch in late 2013.
Cartoon Network is available on cable, IPTV and satellite, and is also available over Mobile Phone Television on Slovenia's Mobitel network.
Turkey
Cartoon Network came to Turkey on March 30, 1998 as Cartoon Network Europe and upgraded to CHECK it on April 4, 2011.
Eastern Europe
In Eastern Europe, Cartoon Network is twinned with movie channel TCM. Cartoon Network runs from 5:00 am until 11:00 pm (Moscow Time), with TCM taking over from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am (Moscow Time). In Russia, it is available on NTV Plus, AKADO. In Ukraine, it is available on NTV Plus Ukraine, Poverkhnost and Viasat Ukraine. In Kazakhstan, the channel is available on Katelco Plus. The channel is also available on most cable operators in Eastern Europe. Russian and English audio are available.
On 1 October 2009, a version of Cartoon Network in Russia and South Eastern Europe launched, replacing the pan-European version in Russia, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Serbia.
Scandinavia
Cartoon Network is broadcasting from the United Kingdom to Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland,and Iceland. The channel was created in 2000 when it replaced the Pan-European version of Cartoon Network in the region. Cartoon Network was originally twinned with movie channel TNT in a pan-European version. Cartoon Network ran from 6:00 am until 8:00 pm CET, with TNT taking over from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am CET. In 1996, it became a 24-hour channel, as did TNT. However, a version of the channel called TNT & Cartoon Network continued to appear on some providers. In 2000, a regional Scandinavian version of Cartoon Network was created, broadcasting in Swedish, Danish and Norwegian. The feed has seen an upsurge of commercial advertising in recent years, despite being distributed only on pay-TV. Most of the commercials and announcements on English soundtrack are nevertheless in Swedish, Danish and Norwegian.
Most of the programming comes with English, Swedish, Danish and Norwegian soundtracks, all in mono. The self-imposed necessity to dub material into three languages takes a heavy toll on the availability of new programmes in the feed, which may come late, in smaller amount or not come at all. Existing programming is heavily repeated. The feed has seen an upsurge of commercial advertising in recent years, despite being distributed only on pay-TV. Most of the commercials and announcements on English soundtrack are nevertheless in Swedish, Danish and Norwegian.
Greece
Cartoon Network Greece was launched in summer 2005 and broadcasts from 6am CET to 9pm CET. Before 31 May 2009 the channel shared time with TCM from 9pm CET to 6am CET until the contract between TCM and NOVA Greece expired on 31 May 2009.
The channel broadcasts with an English soundtrack, but Greek subtitles are provided on all the shows. The pan-European feed is available.
Arab World
The channel is available 24 hours via Orbit Showtime and Arab Digital Distribution. The channel is available in Arabic and English. Spacetoon and MBC 3 also airs selected Cartoon Network shows dubbed in Arabic. Also, Boomerang Central & Eastern Europe is available on Orbit Showtime and Arab Digital Distribution in English, which is also available in Arabic on selected programmes.
A 24/7 Arabic language edition of Cartoon Network launched on 10 October 2010 on BADR-6, broadcasting free-to-air (Freq: 12341 H 27.500 V 5/6).
Central and South Africa
The channel is available 24 hours on DStv. This version of Cartoon Network uses the pan-European feed with the English soundtrack, and inserts for regional commercials.
